Last minute decision to take family to their main location for a meal as we have not all been together. Offered immediate seating on porch, but we decided to wait for an interior table. Lots of groups came during our wait. It's always been like that here. Very popular. We each got something totally different, & all were more than satisfied. Filling. Yummy. Staff was incredible from check-in till we left. Waitress was beyond gifted/talented. One of my family members noticed a unique wall honoring what appeared to be staff in the area where we waited, & suggested I read what was under each photo. I'm glad I had an opportunity to do so before we left. Very inspiring. Made me cry. Photos will be uploaded of tribute wall.
Service always courteous and helpful. Really comfy lunchtime setting. Food choices include great salads, soups, sandwiches and plates. Something for gf needs.Save room for dessert with phenomenal pies and cakes, maybe not gf! You feel special after a lunch here.
Family-owned and it shows in the quality and pride of every dish served. This is down home comfort food at its finest. Everything I'd heard about the white chicken chili was absolutely true...it was heavenly. And don't even get me started on the famous apple pie. One slice took care of four of us! Luckily it was a lovely day so we walked off the calories while doing a little shopping around town. Get there early! The place fills up quickly. Highly recommend because it's as comfortable as being at grandma's house.
Visited the quaint town of Kimmswick for a 5K and had to stop by The Blue Owl! It's a bubbly restaurant with a rustic theme, well-suited to its location. Our server was warm, welcoming, attentive and knowledgeable. I ordered the world-famous Levee High Caramel Pecan Apple Pie to go with a Trio combo: a salad, half a quiche and a cup of soup. The soup of the day was a hearty stuffed pepper soup, a rich mix of ground meat, rice and peppers in a tasty broth. My favorite dish was the half slice of quiche lorraine; warm and filling, with a flaky crust. The apple pie is a unique dish - towering caramel crust encases firm, tart-sweet apple slices, giving you a host of flavors to play with. Would dine here again!
Great place to eat and visit on an outside terrace. Food was very plentiful and what can you say about the apple pie! It's huge and so very fresh. Grabbed some extra to take home on the flight. Super friendly service and prices are reasonable. We'll be back!
Fun lunch spot in Kimmswick . We went on a weekday so it wasn't busy but I expect there is a huge wait on the weekends . Both of us had salads and they were generously in portions. They came with a side of muffins which were delicious . We didn't get to try the award winning pies because we were so full but will definitely be back for them .
I've spent my life hearing about it. I spent 1 hour living the dream. It was a pie in the sky dream due to constantly long wait times but today it happened. In all honesty, it worked out great coinciding this with the Christmas Kimmswick festival so the wait time meant shopping and perfect timing. So here's the scoop. 1. Chicken chili - cozy, scrumptious and worth the hype. I'd eat this 3 times a week if I could. It's a must. 2. The beef stew - eh... 3. The quiche Lorraine - standard, good execution, good for breakfast, not for recommendations 4. The chicken salad pie - insane. Couldn't stop eating it. A must try. Like the chicken pie covered with cheese, I too was smothered with deliciousness and had to stop to come up for error. And for the finale, the pies. 1. The coconut cream pie: delicious, yes, award winning no. Overshadowed by the famous levee pie 2. The mile high levee apple pie: it's on Oprah's favorite things... rightfully so. The caramel on the crust, lawwwd have mercy. Necessary hack - get it with vanilla ice cream. It needs some cream to cut the apple cinnamon's delicious 19 layers. All in all, great spot. For how famous and constantly busy it sounds it is I'm surprised the inside still looks like grandmas backyard home cookin small town dinner spot with 0 upgrades other than additional seating on a quasi patio but perhaps that's part of the charm. Worth the drive, worth the wait. Would enjoy again.
First visit to the blue owl and it was great. My husband and I split orders, to start the white chicken chili and the beef vegetable. Both were great, but the chili really stood out as unique. The quiche was pretty standard, but the unexpected champion of the meal was the baked chicken salad. Who knew you could make a savory pie with chicken salad? The place is famous for the levee apple pie, and I can see why now! The mix of crust, caramel, cinnamon, and apple sang together. Pro tip- order a scoop of vanilla ice cream, it really set off the flavor profiles. There was a long wait, as expected, but they text you when your table is ready. This allowed us to explore the shops nearby and purchase some great Xmas gifts.
Parking was a little crazy on a Saturday but we were able to find a spot in the nice large lot across the street. It was a warmer day but we sat outside. They have a great deck/patio with fans. Our server was prompt and attentive. The menu had plenty of great options but wanted to save room for dessert so went with the egg salad sandwich. It was tasty! It was served with a side of chips and they easily swapped soup for cottage cheese. The dessert menu was equally hard to choose from with so many tasty options. I went with the apple crumb pie. It came out warmed slightly which was perfect. Only regret- not getting a scoop of ice cream. The carrot cake was great too. Would definitely return! Glad we finally went for a drive to give it a try. You should too!
